Odisha Judicial Service: OJS 5th rank holder Smita Mohapatra commits to advocating women safety

A rising star from Odisha, Smita Mohapatra, hailing from Soro in Balasore district, has distinguished herself in the highly competitive Odisha Judicial Service (OJS) examinations by securing a commendable fifth rank.

An elated Smita, who has drawn inspiration from her father Chittaranjan Mohapatra, a lawyer at Soro Court, attributed her success to her parents and Lord Jagannath. 

Joining the Ranks of Women Champions

Emerging from Balasore's Soro, Smita is among the 33 successful candidates of OJS-2023, which notably includes 24 women. Her aspiration is driven by a deep-seated desire to enhance women's safety and extend her service to underprivileged communities in Odisha.

Upholding Family Legacy

The Mohapatra household is filled with joy and pride over Smita’s success. A Madhusudan Law College 2023 pass out student, Smita’s success reflects not only her dedication but also her family’s aspirations. 

“I’m on cloud nine. I owe my success to Lord Jagannath and Sai Baba. I had worked very hard for this day. I would study for 12-13 hours every day and sometimes even 14-15 hours. My hard work has paid off and I have secured 5th rank,” said an elated.

“Moreover, my father's dedication to his practice inspired me to pursue a career in the judiciary. He would take me to the court as a child. I was always attracted to the judges’ seats. Since then, I was motivated to become a judge someday,” shared Smita in an exclusive interview with OTV. 

“My main aim is to give fair justice to everyone irrespective of rich and poor and end gender impartiality. Women should get justice; it will be my first priority,” she further added. Her success story resonates powerfully in a region where familial legacies and professional achievements often intertwine.
