A fire broke out at a ticket counter at Baramunda Bus Stand in Bhubaneswar following an explosion on Friday morning, triggering panic among passengers and staff at the terminal.

According to sources, the fire broke out at the Dolphin Bus counter where tickets for Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Vijayawada are booked. 

While many travellers suspected that the fire was caused due to bombing, the ticket counter staff clarified that a battery exploded at the counter causing the fire.

Ticket Counter Staff Clarify

“There was a battery in the ticket counter and it exploded causing the fire. While we managed to douse the flame, the explosion caused damages to the computers at the counter,” a staff of the ticket counter said.

“We received the battery in a parcel. But it caught fire and exploded. Fortunately, none sustained injuries in the explosion,” another staff said.

On being informed about the incident, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot to control the blaze. As of now, there are no reports of casualties or injuries. 

Questions Raised Over Safety

Meanwhile, questions are being raised over the safety and security of passengers as transporting batteries in bus may cause damage to lives and properties if it explodes.
