Suvash Satapathy
Renowned journalist, writer and translator Suvash Satapathy has been selected for the prestigious Translation Award 2024, bestowed by the Kendra Sahitya Akademi. The announcement was made by the akademi on Friday.
The prestigious award comes in recognition of his outstanding contribution to literature through the translation of eminent writer Ruskin Bond’s autobiography, 'Lone Fox Dancing', into Odia language, entitled 'Kokishialira Ekaka Nrutya'.
The accolade includes a cash prize of Rs 50,000, along with a citation and a plaque, underscoring the significance of his translation work. The decision was made by an independent jury appointed by the Akademi.
The panel responsible for adjudicating submissions in the Odia translation category this year consisted of poet Amaresh Pattnaik, alongside esteemed literary figures Pravasini Mahakud and Monalisa Jena.
Satpathy, a respected figure in the Odia literary sphere, has an extensive portfolio of translations. His works feature the English rendition of the biography of prominent Odia politician Harekrushna Mahtab, a biography of Nityananda Kanungo, and a book exploring the theme of Odia nationalism.

"I am very much happy to hear the news of bagging this prestigious award. I am thankful and grateful to the Akademi and all the jury members who have selected me for the award," said Satapathy following the announcement.
"Ruskin Bond is one of the most popular and admired writers of India. His autobiography is a highly popular book and just like a novel. While reading his autobiography, readers will find the same taste of reading a novel. I have thoroughly enjoyed translating the book," he added.
