Speeding truck crushes woman to death at Palasuni in Bhubaneswar

A woman was crushed to death after being hit by a speeding truck at Palasuni Square in Bhubaneswar on Thursday morning.

The tragic accident reportedly occurred at around 10.30 am when the woman was trying to cross the busy road in Bhubaneswar. The victim died on the spot.

However, the identity of the deceased was not ascertained immediately. The driver reportedly ran away with the vehicle from the spot immediately after the accident.

Tension prevailed in the area following the accident. Movement of vehicles was disrupted for some time due to a traffic jam. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on the National Highway as local residents staged a road blockade demanding the construction of a foot over-bridge to avoid such incidents in the area.

Subsequently, Mancheswar Police reached the accident spot and pacified the agitators. The body of the woman was sent to the Capital Hospital for post-mortem.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.

As per eyewitnesses, the woman was returning from the nearby market with some goods. When she was crossing the road, she was hit by a speeding truck. As a result, the woman fell on the ground bleeding profusely. Though some locals and passers-by rushed to help her and called an ambulance, she died on the spot immediately.

Notably, the Palasuni area has virtually turned into a death trap for people with frequent accidents taking place at regular intervals. Despite repeated demands by the locals, the authorities are yet to construct a foot overbridge in the busy area.
