Deceased CISF Jawan’s pension siphoned off by sister-in-law, nephew; 5 arrested
In a shocking incident in the Udala Police jurisdiction, five people were arrested for plotting fraud to siphon the pension of a deceased CISF jawan.
The mastermind behind this elaborate scheme was the jawan's sister-in-law and his nephew, who had conspired to forge documents and signatures to siphon off the pension funds.
Jadunath Singh, a Head Constable in CISF, died in 2023. The criminals allegedly prepared fake papers like a divorce certificate after Jadunath's death to create a false history.
They even managed to get fake court orders and collected a whopping Rs 20 lakh in pension due to Jadunath.
The police inquiry was initiated after a complaint was filed by a lawyer who exposed the fraudulent transactions.
“They have taken another case’s Judgement copy and changed the name to Minati Singh Vs Jadunath Singh to dissolve the original marriage of CISF jawan,” said Rabin Kumar, an advocate.
He further added, “After dissolving the marriage, they produced the marriage certificate to build a story that the jawan was married to his sister-in-law.”
The police promptly arrested the fraudsters Banamali Singh, Bijay Patra, a computer shop owner, Jadunath's sister-in-law, Somabari, and his nephew, Nilam Singh.
They also arrested a government lawyer, Pratima Sahu, who assisted in the forgery.
As the case unfolds, it is evident that there are flaws in the pension system and to what extent people will go for financial gain.
The police are determined to bring everyone involved to the book as the community struggles to come to terms with the fact that the betrayal has come from within the family and among close acquaintances.
