A newborn girl was found abandoned along a roadside in Tulundupali Village, under the Binika Police limits in Odisha's Subarnapur District, on Saturday morning.
A local resident discovered the baby and, noticing that she was alive, promptly rushed her to the Binika Community Health Centre for treatment. The condition of the baby girl is stated to be stable.
There are suspicions that the child may have been buried shortly after birth. For further medical care, she has since been transferred to the Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital.
Santosh Nayi, the man who rescued the infant, said, “I found the child lying by the road, and I have no idea how long she had been there in the cold. Once I realized she was still alive, I quickly rushed her to the hospital. She was covered in mud, dirt, and blood. The doctor has referred her to Sonepur Hospital for further treatment, and I will be taking her there”
Santosh Bibhar, Binika CHC doctor said, “We received the infant today. She is currently in stable condition, but when she arrived, she was hypothermic. We have referred her to Sonepur DHH. Based on her health and growth, she appears to be a newborn.”
Meanwhile, the couple that rescued the infant has been childless for nearly 17 years and are expressing their desire to adopt her.
In a similar incident, another newborn was rescued by slum dwellers in Bhubaneswar in late November. Local residents heard cries and went to investigate, discovering an abandoned baby girl. The infant was wrapped in a towel, with no one else in sight. The Shaheed Nagar police arrived at the scene to assess the situation and ensure the girl's safety. She was quickly rushed to a hospital for care and treatment.
