2 newborns hooked to 1 oxygen cylinder at MKCG Medical College in Berhampur
A distressing situation has come to light at the MKCG Medical College in Berhampur, exposing the fragile state of healthcare services in Odisha. In a highly concerning development, two newborn babies were seen sharing a single oxygen cylinder at the hospital.
As per reports, the incident occurred during the transfer of the infants from the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) to the Super Specialty Block's cardiology department for an echocardiogram test. The shared oxygen setup was spotted while the babies were en route to the diagnostic procedure.
After the echocardiogram test was conducted, the babies were brought back to the SNCU. Both newborns reportedly have underlying heart conditions. Following the development, medical experts have raised concerns over the risks associated with connecting two patients to a single oxygen source, which could compromise oxygen supply and pose serious health hazards.

As per sources, a similar incident had occurred at the hospital two years ago, and the hospital authorities had then issued a show cause notice to the concerned doctor.
