Altercation between police and the deceased's relative

Tension erupted at a government-run hospital in Jajpur town on Monday after relatives of a deceased patient accused the health facility staff of medical negligence.

In a striking demonstration, the family positioned deceased Anita Rout’s body outside the hospital’s emergency unit. Anita, who belonged to the Danagadi locality in Jajpur, had been admitted earlier in the day experiencing severe breathing difficulties due to a heart ailment. However, she succumbed shortly after her arrival at the hospital.

The grief-stricken family alleged that improper treatment and neglect by the medical team contributed to Anita’s premature death.

“After she (Anita) felt uneasy, the doctor asked us to bring an oxygen cylinder. I brought the oxygen cylinder but oxygen was not given to her immediately. She became unconscious and later she succumbed,” a relative of the deceased woman expressed.

In light of these serious charges, the Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) announced that a thorough inquiry would be carried out to ascertain the facts of the case. “That is a medical college having a superintendent and doctors. We will conduct a probe to ascertain the reason behind the patient’s death,” Jajpur ADMO Nagendra Mohapatra said.

A comprehensive report will be prepared following the probe, the ADMO added.
