Rainfall to continue for next four days in Odisha, IMD issues orange and yellow warnings for these districts

IMD predicts rainfall for four days in Odisha due to a western disturbance. Orange and yellow warnings issued for several districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak.

Light to moderate rainfall lashed several places in Odisha on Wednesday evening with drizzle continuing until Thursday in areas including Bhubaneswar. Further, the rainfall activity is expected to continue for the next four days, as per a prediction by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Weather Department attributed the current wet conditions to the influence of a western disturbance and a trough line passing through the state, under whose impact northern interior Odisha may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rainfall.

“Odisha will experience thunderstorms and rainfall over isolated places for five days. In the next 24 hours isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, and Puri,” said Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Center on Wednesday.

Accordingly, the Regional Meteorological Center has issued an orange warning for seven districts and a yellow Warning for twelve districts for the next 24 hours.

Districts under Orange Warning:

Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal. Isolated places in these districts may experience wind speeds of 40-50 km/h, along with hailstorms and lightning.

Districts under Yellow Warning:

Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, and Gajapati, isolated places here may also experience thunderstorms with lightning.

The bulletin issued by the IMD advised people to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas. Additionally, farmers were advised to install hail nets to protect vegetables and crops from hail.

Meanwhile, the IMD also predicted that no significant change in temperature is expected for the next four to five days. Additionally, cloudy conditions prevailed in many places of the state and minimum temperatures dropped slightly amid rising heat conditions that began towards the last quarter of January.
