IMD issues orange warning for thunderstorm with lightning, gusty wind and hail in Odisha districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued an orange warning for thunderstorm with lightning in several districts of Odisha. Several parts of the state may also experience gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and hail in the next two days.

In view of the forecast, people have been advised to keep a watch on weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow necessary traffic advisories in urban areas. The farmers have been advised to use hail nets to protect vegetables and crops.

Meanwhile, there will be no large change in the minimum temperature (night temperature) during next 4-5 days over the districts of Odisha.

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 20.02.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning, gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and hail is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore.

Yellow Warning(Be aware): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.02.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.02.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning, gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and hail very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal. 

Yellow Warning (Be aware) : Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.02.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.02.2025)

Yellow Warning (Be aware): Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 22.02.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 23.02.2025)

Yellow Warning (Be aware): Thunderstorm with lightning, gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and hail is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur.
