Dengue menace in Bhubaneswar

Dengue is gradually spreading in Bhubaneswar, with a steady increase in infections in recent days. The capital city is witnessing a surge in the number of dengue patients as cases related to the vector-borne disease continue to surface.

According to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), there are currently 40 to 45 active cases in the city.

Since January this year, a total of 167 dengue cases have been reported, with 96 cases recorded in July alone. At present, five patients are undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital, while four new dengue cases were detected just yesterday.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and health officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and take preventive measures.

Sources reveal that empty flower vases, abandoned tyres, and broken pots left in the open have been accumulating rainwater due to sporadic showers, turning into breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, which are responsible for the spread of dengue.

The Aedes aegypti mosquito, which causes dengue, breeds in clean, stagnant water on hard surfaces. Health officials have urged the public to regularly empty water from tyres, coconut shells, pots, coolers, and other containers in and around their homes.
