Minor girl set on fire in Puri: Will the recovered silver ring lead to new clues?

The investigation into the shocking Balanga incident in Odisha’s Puri district, where a minor girl was set on fire, has gained momentum with the recovery of a silver ring from the crime scene, which may prove crucial in unraveling the mystery behind the case.

According to Crime Branch sources, the ring was shown to a local jewellery shop owner, Kunu Sahu, during questioning. The shopkeeper reportedly identified the ring and confirmed that it had been purchased around two and a half months ago by a friend of the burn victim.

The revelation has added a new dimension to the case, raising serious questions about how the ring landed at the spot where the victim was allegedly set on fire. Investigators are now trying to ascertain whether the ring was dropped during the incident or deliberately left behind.

Meanwhile, the survivor continues to undergo treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi, where a team of seven doctors is monitoring her condition. Skin grafting procedures have already been performed. Her statement is likely to be recorded again on Friday in the presence of a magistrate.

“The police called me for the ring, and I have cooperated in the investigation. I was questioned and released later. The victim’s friend, a girl, bought the ring around two and a half months ago,” said Sahu.
