Fog around the Jagannath Temple in Puri
Dense fog blanketed several parts of the state on Monday morning as temperatures remained chilly owing to the coldwave in Odisha. Major stretches of the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack remained shrouded in intense fog and mist since early morning with visibility limited to nearly 50 meters.
Highways leading through these cities remained barely visible, causing significant problems for vehicular movement. Similarly in Puri, the Jagannath Temple was left out of view as heavy fog settled over the area. Additionally, the sacred flag atop the temple, Patitapabana Bana was also not visible marking the intensity of the fog.
As per data released by the Bhubaneswar Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Rourkela recorded dense fog with visibility between 50 and 200 meters while moderate fog enveloped areas of Phulbani, Dhenkanal, and Angul districts, with shallow fog over Gopalpur.
Meanwhile, temperatures in most places remained steady and cold similar to the night preceding it. On Saturday night, Phulbani recorded the lowest temperature out of all cities in the state and shivered at 8 degrees Celsius whereas G. Udayagiri, at 5 degrees Celsius, emerged as the coldest place in Odisha for the second consecutive day.
Adhering to the ongoing weather pattern, Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 14.5 degrees whereas Cuttack witnessed temperatures of 14 degrees Celsius.
Despite the dense fog, dry weather prevailed across the state in the last two nights. Moreover, the IMD has also predicted a gradual rise in temperatures by at least 2 to 3 degrees starting from this night onwards and lasting for the next 3 days.
