Cold wave across Odisha
A persistent coldwave owing to cold winds blowing in from the north and northwest continued to sweep Odisha on the fourth day of 2025 with the capital city of Bhubaneswar recording the season’s lowest temperature of 12.7 degrees Celsius on Friday night.
On the preceding night, Bhubaneswar had recorded a minimum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius. As such, the mercury plummeted by 1.3 degrees, marking a significant impact due to the intense cold wave.
Similarly, Cuttack also dropped further with chill winds blowing at 12.4 degrees Celsius. Moreover, the temperature in both the twin cities has been predicted to lie between 13 to 14 degrees Celsius for the next 7 days, starting today.
As per the India Meteorological Department, (IMD) Rourkela once again recorded the lowest temperature among major cities in Odisha at 8.7 degrees Celsius followed by Jharsuguda (9), and Keonjhar (10.4) and Sambalpur (11.9). Coastal regions also suffered reeled under cold with Balasore recording minimum temperatures of 13.1 degrees Celsius followed by Chandbali (13.4), Paradip (14.2), Gopalpur (15,7), and Puri (16.6).
The weather department also stated that the intense cold is likely to persist for at least the next two days. Following that period, a respite is likely as temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent three days.
Meanwhile, light to moderate fog was witnessed this morning and is expected to persist tomorrow across Anugul, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts. The IMD also stated the weather is expected to remain dry for the next seven days but chill may persist.
