Family members grieving after hearing the news of the migrant worker's death
A family in Kaitha village under Patrapur block of Odisha's Ganjam district is in a dire predicament following the death of a migrant worker in Dubai. Bhuban Dash, a skilled welder, had moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in search of better employment opportunities. Tragically, he passed away recently, leaving his family bereft and struggling with financial insecurity.
Two days have lapsed since the untimely death, yet Bhuban's body remains in Dubai. His family, confronted with emotional and financial distress, has implored the government to expedite the repatriation process of his remains.
Family members and relatives are praying for government intervention. Bhuban, who was the sole breadwinner, leaves behind a household of five who are now seeking sustainable support. This case highlights the vulnerabilities in the life of migrant labourers seeking better opportunities abroad.
“I don’t have anyone now. I have lost my husband. Now, my son is also gone. How will I survive now with my four daughters?” said an inconsolable Jasodha Dash, mother of the deceased.
“The company is not taking any responsibility. They should at least give necessary compensation to the bereaved family. The family have lost its head (father). The deceased was the only earning member of the family. Now, the family is left behind with the widowed mother and four daughters. So, I request the government to bring the body back and offer necessary compensation,” urged a relative.
