After missing repeated deadlines, the agency involved in the renovation and development of historic Chandi Mandir in Cuttack has been directed by Cuttack MP and Collector to complete the necessary works by December 2025. This is said to be a final deadline for the concerned agency.

During a ground-level inspection on Saturday, the Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab and Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde assessed the current status of the project and emphasized the need for timely completion. They announced that the eastern gate of the temple would be reopened to devotees by the end of June, and renovation of the side temples dedicated to various deities will also be completed within the stipulated schedule.

Renovation Works Began In 2022

The renovation of Cuttack Chandi Mandir, which began in 2022, had initially faced setbacks due to delays in the arrival of construction stones—largely due to administrative hurdles. However, authorities confirmed that normal construction activities have resumed, and the work is now progressing steadily.

Cuttack MP expressed optimism that the project would be completed on time. Similarly, Odisha Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan had earlier instructed the department to finish the work by December end.

“The work for kitchen and Shiva temple has been completed. The northern gate work will be completed by June and devotees will get entry access from two sides. Our deadline is December and we have asked to complete the works one month before the dateline,” said Mahtab.

Budget Allocation

The renovation project has an allocated budget of Rs 70 crore, with active involvement from the Cuttack Municipal Corporation Commissioner and other departmental officials.

However, concerns about substandard work and repeated delays led the Cuttack Chandi Temple Security Committee to file public interest litigation (PIL) in the Orissa High Court, seeking intervention.

With the latest directives in place, the administration is hopeful that this iconic temple will regain its glory without further delays, ensuring a better experience for thousands of devotees.
