Minor girl gang raped by 6 men in Rourkela
Police arrested six men on Saturday in connection with the gang rape of a minor girl earlier this week in Rourkela in Sundargarh district. Allegations of the gang rape of the minor under Bisra police station limits had caused a major uproar in the Steel City a few days back. Acting on the reports and statements of the survivor, police had launched a manhunt to nab all the accused.
While five of the six perpetrators were nabbed on Friday and were immediately forwarded to court, a sixth remained absconding and was apprehended yesterday.
“We traced every nook and cranny in search of the accused and took five of them in custody on the very day of the incident. Now that the sixth and final accused has also been nabbed, we will produce all of them before a special POCSO court,” said Rourkela Police DSP, Nirmal Mohapatra.
Further, he added that medical examinations of all six accused had been conducted, their statements were being recorded, and further investigations into the matter were underway, as per the last reports.
In a startling turn of lawlessness, Rourkela City has been plagued by several reported allegations of rape cases in the past few months.
In December, a minor girl was allegedly abducted and locked in a room for three days near Bisra Chowk, where three youths gang-raped her. Earlier, in September, a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped and her sibling, who is also a minor, was sexually assaulted by some youths, again in the same area.
