Police conduct surprise raids across Rourkela
A substantial operation in the form of raids targeting illicit drug trafficking in Rourkela are currently underway across Mahatab Road and its neighbouring areas on Friday.
The area has been a focal point for narcotic activities for several years, with previous mitigation efforts having only minimal success.
The meticulously planned operation carried out today saw armed police undertaking detailed inspections in an attempt to dismantle the longstanding network of illegal cannabis and brown sugar trade.
In a coordinated effort, law enforcement officers from every police station in Rourkela participated. This included senior officers such as the Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) from three zones, an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), and six platoons of police force, all converging on the area to ensure the operation’s success. They were supported by specialised units, including a dog squad equipped with sniffer dogs to aid in investigations.

The crackdown provided a critical step forward in addressing the pervasive drug issues within the region, demonstrating a renewed commitment to curtailing illegal activities and safeguarding the community.
“Acting on a reliable input, we have conducted the raids. As many as six platoons of police force, a dog squad and sniffer dogs have been engaged in the raids. We will be able to give detailed information only after the completion of the raids,” said Rourkela Additional SP Raj Kishore Mishra.
