Medical supervisor LN Maharana caught by Vigilance
A medical supervisor in Odisha's Kalahandi district was caught red-handed on Thursday and has been detained on allegations of accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 4,000 in return for providing a birth certificate to an applicant.
The supervisor identified as Lakshmi Narayan Maharana works in Thuamul Rampur. He was caught in the act by a Vigilance team.
A detailed probe revealed that Maharana was accepting the bribe through PhonePe digital payment platform, demonstrating a level of sophistication. The Vigilance sleuths have seized his smartphone and initiated searches at three different locations linked to him.
The case began with a complaint from locals of Nikesajora village of Talajhapi panchayat, who claimed that Maharana asked for a bribe to facilitate the issuance of birth certificates. Following the complaint, the Vigilance department orchestrated a sting operation, which resulted in Maharana being caught while accepting the bribe.
The vigilance department has launched a detailed probe into the incident, which is underway. Details of the seizures have not been known yet.
Worth mentioning, Vigilance sleuths recently conducted simultaneous raids at 10 places associated with Narayan Chandra Nayak, Sub Collector of Kamakhyanagar on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
