Banned cough syrups, counterfeit medicines seized during raid in Cuttack
In a major crackdown on the sale of banned drugs, a joint team of the Directorate of Drug Control and Excise Department seized a huge amount of cough syrup and other illegal medicines during a raid on a drug farm in Cuttack late on Wednesday night.
The team has also apprehended the medicine farm owner and his accomplice in this connection. The duo has been identified as Jayram Sahu and his aide Prafulla Kumar Jena.
According to sources, Jayram owned a medicine farm named Krishna Medicine in Sumandi village, which is within Sadar police limits. He and his aide Prafulla used to buy, sell, and store counterfeit drugs and cough syrups, which were later supplied to various medicine stores.
After getting information from reliable sources, the Excise Department and Directorate of Drugs Control team conducted a sudden raid at the medicine farm and made the seizure. At least 32 types of illegal medicines have been seized, sources said.
