A third-standard student of Salaguda Sevashram in Kandhamal district has been referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, after failing to recover fully from injuries caused after adhesive was allegedly applied to his eyes in the hostel.

A third-standard student of Salaguda Sevashram in Kandhamal district has been referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, after failing to recover fully from injuries caused after adhesive was allegedly applied to his eyes in the hostel.

The boy is among eight children who were admitted to the hospital after the incident on September 12, in which classmates allegedly poured Fevikwik, a highly durable adhesive, into the eyes of eight others.

Doctors at the Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) confirmed that while seven of the affected children have recovered and returned to the hostel, The minor boy continues to face difficulty in opening his eyelids and requires further specialised treatment.

Medical Treatment And Condition

The children were first taken to Gochhapada Medical Centre on September 12, soon after hostel authorities discovered their condition. As the injuries were found to be serious, all eight were shifted to the Phulbani DHH.

Sources said the children remain under observation, and medical support is being provided. The District Welfare Officer of Kandhamal had also visited the hospital earlier to review arrangements and monitor the situation.

How The Incident Unfolded

The incident occurred late on September 12 at the Sevashram hostel in Phiringia block. According to reports, a few children applied Fevikwik adhesive to the eyes of eight hostel mates while they were asleep. The next morning, the victims woke up crying in pain and were unable to open their eyes. Hostel authorities rushed them to the hospital soon after.

As of the last reports, the investigation into any possibility of a lack of supervision at the child care facility is underway, and police have made no arrests in the matter so far.
