In a shocking and deeply disturbing incident, eight students of Salaguda Sevashram School in Phiringia block of Kandhamal district were hospitalised after a few other students allegedly applied Fevikwik adhesive to their eyes while they were asleep in the school hostel.

The incident came to light on Friday morning when the affected children woke up crying in pain and were unable to open their eyes. Hostel authorities and fellow students rushed them for treatment. The children were initially admitted to Gochhapada Medical Centre, but as their condition was found to be serious, they were shifted to the Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for specialised care.

Officials confirmed that the students are undergoing treatment and are under close medical supervision. The District Welfare Officer (DWO) of Kandhamal also visited the hospital to review the situation and ensure proper care for the children.

This unprecedented act has raised serious questions about supervision in Sevashram hostels and the psychological environment among young students. While some suggest it may have been a prank gone wrong, others fear it points to a troubling mindset developing among children.

Parents and locals have expressed shock, calling for stricter monitoring in hostels to prevent recurrence of such incidents. Child rights activists have also demanded a thorough inquiry, stressing that the safety and mental well-being of hostel students must be a top priority.

The incident serves as a grim reminder that mischief or negligence in child care institutions can lead to dangerous consequences, and highlights the urgent need for stronger vigilance and accountability in residential schools.
