In a significant medical achievement, a team of surgeons at a private hospital in Cuttack has successfully removed a colossal tumour weighing 19 kilograms from a woman's abdomen.
The patient, a resident of Bhubaneswar, had been enduring severe discomfort and restricted mobility due to the size of the tumour. Following the exhausting five-hour procedure, the woman is on her way to recovery and has been discharged from the hospital.
The operation took place at a specialty cancer hospital in Telengapenth, where medical experts resolved to undertake the complex surgery after all other treatment avenues were exhausted.
Despite the challenges posed by the size of the tumour, the surgical team navigated the procedure successfully. The patient continues to receive chemotherapy as part of her post-operative care.
Doctors involved have remarked on the intricacy of the operation, given the tumour's immense size and the associated risks. The successful outcome underlines the expertise present within India's medical community.
“It was teamwork and very challenging. It took us around 5 hours, and our focus was mainly on pain management and anesthesia. It was a successful operation, now the patient will be under chemo,” informed Dr. Sandeep Kumar Panda, HCG Panda Cancer Hospital.
