Thief decamps woth gold and cash from thread ceremony event in Puri
A miscreant allegedly looted valuables from a thread ceremony event held at a mandap in Odisha's Puri. The incident took place on Sunday night.
The incident took place during the thread ceremony of lawyer Smruti Ranjan Pati’s son. The thief allegedly made off with nearly Rs 2 lakh in cash and 50 grams of gold jewellery from the venue. The theft occurred at the municipal corporation’s Kalyan mandap.
Following the theft, a complaint was filed with the Puri Town Police. In response, the police have initiated a search operation in an attempt to track down and apprehend the culprit. The authorities are examining the video footage to gather more details that might lead to the identification of the thief.

This incident mirrors a similar robbery that took place recently on February 2, at a luxury hotel in Bhubaneswar. In the theft case, a gang of miscreants, disguised as wedding guests entered the venue. Then they further managed to loot diamonds and gold worth approximately Rs 10 lakh, as well as Rs 2.5 lakh in cash. The theft occurred during a wedding ceremony at Suryansh Hotels & Resorts in the capital city, while everyone was distracted by the ongoing festivities.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating both cases to identify and apprehend the culprits involved in these thefts.
