Odias stranded in Oman
Four Odias, along with twelve other workers, are reportedly stranded in Oman after being lured by job opportunities. They have allegedly been subjected to exploitation and abuse by a private company. The situation came to light when one of the trapped workers made a video call to his family in Odisha, pleading for help to bring them back to India.
Among the stranded workers is Basanta Kumar Sethy, a resident of Tarinipalli village under the Rambha police station limits in Ganjam district of Odisha. According to Basanta, the private company has confiscated their passports and essential documents, leaving them in a vulnerable position.
As per the workers' complaints, they had been employed by a company in Oman. However, after five months of work, when they did not receive their wages, they protested, which allegedly led to death threats. Their passports and other important documents were reportedly seized, preventing them from leaving the company and going elsewhere as well. In fear for their lives, the workers remain helpless and unable to escape their current situation.

The family of Basanta Kumar Sethy has appealed to the Ganjam district administration to intervene and help rescue their loved ones. Despite their desire to return, the workers are unable to leave due to the confiscation of their documents.
Basanta's mother expressed her distress, saying, "It has been five months since my son left for Oman. They promised him a good salary and a better life, but now they are not even providing him with food. He hasn't received any salary since his arrival. Last night, he called me in tears, asking for help to save him. I urge the authorities to take immediate action and bring my son back home."
