Miscreants looted money from an ATM using a gas cutter in Panchupati, Dhenkanal. The police are investigating the exact amount stolen and enhancing security measures.

Miscreants allegedly looted money from an ATM machine by using a gas cutter near Panchupati area in Dhenkanal district late on Wednesday night.

Moreover, in an effort to erase any evidence, the miscreants attempted to set the machine on fire by dousing it in petrol.

Upon being informed Dhenkanal Sadar Police reached the spot on Thursday morning and started an investigation into the incident.

The police are currently trying to ascertain the amount of money stolen, as the exact figure in the machine prior to the theft remains unknown. Police have intensified their search to track down those responsible for this brazen crime.

The incident underlines the need for increased security measures at cash points across the region. The methodical approach of the thieves has raised concerns about similar future attempts.

Earlier a couple of months back, masked miscreants had allegedly looted cash over Rs 1.5 crore from an ATM cash van on Godijharia Nua Sadak Road near Kalim Bagicha Rice Mill under Tigiria Police limits of  Cuttack district.

More than eight masked miscreants carrying firearms reportedly chased an ATM van in an SUV and motorcycles. They waylaid the van at a secluded place near Kalim Bagicha Rice Mill.
