Accused youth Bishnu Burma from Rourkela
A man allegedly killed his father in revenge for his mother's murder. The fatal incident occurred late last night at Bhalupatara village under Brahmani Tarang police limits of Rourkela in Sundargarh district, police sources said on Monday.
Kranti Burma, the deceased, had recently come back home after serving a lengthy prison sentence for killing his wife. He was released in December last year.
According to the police sources, there was noticeable tension between Kranti and his son, Bishnu Burma, following Kranti's return. The father-son duo was frequently indulging in altercations over the woman’s murder. Things reportedly turned ugly when Bishnu beat his father to death using a wooden stick.
Local police have detained Bishnu for questioning and are examining the crime scene where Kranti's body was discovered. The body was sent to hospital for post-mortem.
This incident is one of the five murder cases reported in Rourkela over the past five days, a situation that has caused significant concern among local residents.
“The family (Kranti Burma and others) was residing in this village for the last 5-6 years. His son has perhaps killed the man. The exact reason behind the ‘killing’ is not known yet. The family members are daily wagers,” a resident of the village said.
“Bishnu (20) killed his father Kranti (55) in revenge for killing his (Bishnu’s) mother long ago. The deceased was in jail and released in 2024. The victim was violent and used to assault his son and harass the woman repeatedly,” Panposh SDPO, Ambit Mohanty stated.
“Accused was nabbed from the crime spot and is being quizzed,” the SDPO added.
