ISKCON temple priest found dead under mysterious circumstances in Cuttack; family alleges foul play

A case of suspicious death has shaken the spiritual atmosphere of the ISKCON temple located in Bidanasi, Cuttack. On Sunday morning, the body of the temple priest was found hanging inside the premises, under circumstances that have raised serious concerns and speculations. 

The deceased priest has been identified as Sangram Samal, a native of Odisha’s Kendrapara district. 

Why Mystery Over Death?

Sangram had been associated with the ISKCON temple for the past six years, serving as a full-time priest. Devotees and temple staff were left stunned when his lifeless body was discovered hanging, prompting immediate calls to local authorities.

While the incident initially appeared to be a case of suicide, Sangram’s family has strongly refuted this possibility. They have alleged that he was murdered and later hanged to stage the scene as suicide. 

“He was a calm, spiritual person with no signs of depression. We believe he was killed and then made to appear as if he took his own life,” said a grieving family member.

What Family Members Allege?

Baula Samal, mother of the deceased said, “I had spoken to my son two days back. Yesterday, I got a call informing me that my son committed suicide. My son cannot commit suicide. It is for the last 10 to 15 years, my son has done a lot of things here. I suspect that some staff might have killed him as he was doing all work with dedication.”

The Bidanasi Police reached the spot shortly after being informed and began an investigation into the case. The body was sent for post-mortem, and forensic experts were also roped in to examine the scene for any evidence suggesting foul play. However, till the last report came in, no arrests were made and the investigation was underway.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, there has been no official response from either the ISKCON temple authorities or the police department. The silence from both sides has only deepened public curiosity and concern over what truly transpired inside the temple walls.

The local community and the devotees of the temple have demanded a transparent and thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death of the priest.
