Police conducting detailed probe on the spot
The body of a man was exhumed by cops from the backyard of his house in Ghantara Sahi of Daincha village under Redhakhol police limits in Sambalpur district, on Sunday. The man was allegedly killed three days ago and his body was buried under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased individual has been identified as Badal Pradhan. He was the elder son of the family. Police retrieved the decomposed body from its location following an anonymous tip-off, utilising a mechanical excavator (JCB machine) to uncover it.
Person(s) involved in the crime are yet to be ascertained and motive behind it is yet to be known. Local police are yet to comment on the suspicious death of Badal.
The reasons behind the suspected murder and the identity of those responsible are yet to be determined. Police have taken certain family members into custody for questioning as part of an investigation which is underway.
Prima facie evidence suggests that it is a case of murder, some locals expressed.
Earlier in another incident, on April 11, 2025, a 48-year-old builder identified as Sasmit Biswal (nickname Chinu) was allegedly beaten to death by some unidentified miscreants in Sundarpada locality under Airfield police limits in Bhubaneswar.
The deceased belonged to Bhimpur under the Airport police limits.
The alleged murder of the local builder in Bhubaneswar had left the city's residents in shock, with initial reports suggesting that the incident stemmed from a property dispute.
Sasmit was then ambushed by a group of individuals while he had been attempting to assert his claim over a piece of land and was trying to take the possession of it. The miscreants had beaten him to death and fled from the spot soon after committing the crime.
