Job fraud: 9 arrested in Odisha for duping job aspirants of crores for clerical & peon posts

Nine fraudsters arrested by Berhampur police

Berhampur Police busted a gang in Ganjam district on Wednesday for allegedly duping several job aspirants of crores of rupees on the pretext of providing them jobs in government offices. Police have arrested nine persons in this connection.

The gang was active in different districts of Odisha and was targeting job seekers.

According to official sources, the accused were giving fabricated joining letters to targeted unemployed men and women. Transactions worth around Rs 2 Crore have been carried out through a bank account linked to the gang. They were usually issuing fake offer letters for clerical and peon posts. Even the accused were luring job aspirants by promising to provide jobs in prominent corporate houses.

After failing to keep the commitments and when some of the victims approached the accused asking refund, the job seekers were beaten by bouncers engaged by the fraudsters, the official sources added.

A case was earlier registered at Baidyanathpur Police Station and a detailed probe was initiated leading to the arrests. Police have recovered fake appointment letters, stamp pads, rubber stamps and several other incriminating instruments from the possession of the accused.

The accused persons were taking the victims to different government offices and arranging interactions with other members of the gang, who were pretending to be officials.

“The key accused identified as Jagdish Kumar Behera hails from the Gopalpur locality of Ganjam district. Staying in Bhubaneswar, he was operating the racket. There are a few more persons involved in the crime,” Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said in a presser.

Around 40 job aspirants have reportedly been duped, the Berhampur SP added.
