Hansita’s ‘2nd husband’ Manoj Kumar Acharya
In a development in the ongoing high-profile Hansita-Anil fraud case, the anticipatory bail application of Manoj Kumar Acharya was rejected by the court on Friday.
The decision was made by a single-judge bench of Justice V. Narasingh, which questioned the necessity of his arrest as no charges have yet been filed against him. Notwithstanding, Manoj has the option to reapply for bail at a later date, the court said in its order.
Manoj is said to be the second husband of Hansita Priyadarshini alias Bishnupriya Chand.
Manoj’s residence was raided by Income Tax authorities; however, his name did not feature in the original complaint against Hansita and Anil raising questions regarding the basis for Manoj’s request for an anticipatory bail.
Worth mentioning, Income Tax sleuths earlier nabbed Saroj Sahu on January 8, identified as the first spouse of Hansita and linked to the major fraud. The accused was detained while he was inside a vehicle in the Khandagiri locality of Bhubaneswar.
It is known that Sahu is a businessman from Ganjam district.
This high-profile criminal case has also seen the arrest of Hansita and Anil, who face allegations of fraud. Following a series of raids by the Income Tax Department at various locations, a detailed probe continues.
The fraudster duo Hansita Abhilipsa and Anil Mohanty stand accused of impersonating relatives (daughter and son-in-law) of Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary PK Mishra, to deceive individuals and amass a fortune running into crores of rupees.
“A cheating case (No-611/2024) was earlier registered at Infocity Police Station and a probe was launched. We are investigating the fraud case from multiple angles,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Swaraj Debata had said.
“A probe team has been formed to verify the documents,” the ADCP had added.
