Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar initiated court proceedings on Thursday seeking the remand of Hansita Abhilipsa and Anil Kumar Mohanty in connection with a fraud case.
The couple stand accused of impersonating as relatives (daughter and son-in-law) of the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary P.K Mishra, to deceive individuals and amass a fortune running into crores of rupees.
The Infocity Police Station in Bhubaneswar has launched a comprehensive probe into the accusations. Police are meticulously examining various facets of the case. A dedicated probe team is gathering documentary evidence to ensure a thorough inquiry.
Police officials have requested judicial approval to detain the accused temporarily, aiming to accelerate the investigation process and to gather more information.
When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Swaraj Debata said, “A cheating case (No-611/2024) was earlier registered at Infocity Police Station and a detailed probe was launched. We are probing the case from multiple angles.”
“A team of investigators has been formed to verify the documents,” the ADCP added.
Worth mentioning, the police team previously reached the office of Hansita Abhilipsa and Anil Mohanty, who were arrested on Monday on the charge of cheating people, to conduct a raid on the premises in Bhubaneswar.
Based on a complaint earlier lodged by a mine owner, Commissionerate Police arrested the duo. Subsequently, they were produced in court and were later sent to jail custody.
The modus operandi of Hansita and Anil was to digitally manipulate photographs with high-ranking officials and approach their targeted persons with false promises of getting the victims’ tenders passed.
