IT Dept continues extensive raids on properties of Odisha’s real-life ‘Bunty Babli’

The Income Tax (IT) Department on Wednesday continued its extensive raids for the second consecutive day at the residences of real-life ‘Bunty Babli’ Hansita Abhilipsa and her ‘aide’ Anil Mohanty, as part of an ongoing investigation. Raids are underway in several locations including Bhubaneswar, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Jharkhand, and Delhi.

The two have been accused of cheating builders, mines owners and businessmen by introducing themselves as the daughter and son-in-law of PM Modi’s Principal Secretary PK Mishra.

The modus operandi of Hansita and Anil was to digitally manipulate photographs with high-ranking officials and approach their victims with false promises of getting their tender passed. They used to introduce them to their targets as the daughter and son-in-law of the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.

By portraying false associations with influential figures, Hansita purportedly convinced victims, primarily targeting rich businessmen, those in the mining and construction sectors. She also posed as the wife of several high-profile businessmen, bureaucrats, and politicians as per the need of her plan to defraud her victims. 

The raids have also reached the residence of Manoj Acharya, a Congress leader and the real husband of Bishnupriya Chand, also known as Hansita, in Baliguda, Kandhamal. More than 20 IT officers are reportedly involved in operations at Manoj Acharya's Baliguda home. According to sources, Hansita, whose birth name is Bishnupriya Chand, hails from Narla in Kalahandi and tied the knot with Manoj Acharya in 2018. 

In Bhubaneswar, IT officials are examining corporate offices in Raghunathpur as well as properties in the SBT Apartments, home to Anil Mohanty, and another residence in Unit-8.

While there has yet to be an official statement from the IT Department about the precise allegations against Manoj, attempts to contact him for comment have thus far been unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remains switched off.
