Two group clashes during Lord Kartikeshwar idol immersion at Baranga, Cuttack injured six. Police detained suspects for investigation.

As many as six persons were injured in two separate group clashes during idol immersion ceremony of Lord Kartikeshwar at Baranga block in Cuttack district on Monday night.

As per reports, tension prevailed near Sitaram market of Baranga area during the immersion ceremony. As many as two vendors and two youths were injured in the attack by some miscreants.

As per sources, two youths were chased and attacked by some miscreants over past enmity when residents of Munda Sahi were taking out the procession. Subsequently, the two youths entered a shop and shut the door.  

Following the development, the miscreants broke open the door and tried to attack the youths. However, the youths somehow managed to escape and the miscreants attacked the vendors. In the process, two vendors and two others inside the shop were injured.

Upon being informed, Baranga police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. As many as six persons have been detained in connection with the incident and their questioning is currently underway.

In another group clash between the residents of Phulapokhari and Madhuban, as many as two persons were injured. 

Road communication in the area was halted for some time due to the group clash. Daily commuters faced a borrowing time as traffic mismanagement forced several vehicles including ambulances to be stranded on both sides of the road.

The injured have been admitted to the nearby hospital for treatment.

No comments from police could be obtained over the matter.
