The Odisha government has plans to construct a Greater Ring Road network to strengthen road connectivity in the State. Accordingly, a total of 564 kilometres of state-of-the-art roads are to be constructed, official sources said on Friday.
The ambitious projects include construction of a 287 Km road from Berhampur to Jeypore with an estimated cost of Rs 9,000 Crore, upgradation of the remaining 101 Km 2-lane road from Jeypore to Rourkela to 4-lane road with an estimated cost of Rs 2,500 Crore, and upgradation of the remaining 176 Km road between Rourkela and Jaleswar to 4-lane road with an estimated cost of Rs 2,200 Crore.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Odisha State’s formation in 2036, the Government aims at transforming Bikashita Odisha to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the State.
A new 6-lane road of 969 km has been planned to be constructed from Motu to Tiring, connecting the State from South to North. This road will serve as a backbone of the State. The estimated cost of this project is around of Rs 15,000 Crore.
Similarly, there is a plan for construction of a 491 Km 6-lane road to connect the proposed Astaranga port to Nuapada. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 9,500 Crore.
There is also a proposal for construction of a 383 Km 6-lane road from the mineral-rich region of Jharsuguda district to Balasore. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 7,500 Crore.
Another proposal is there for the construction of a 357 Km 6-lane road from Brindabahal in Kalahandi district of Western Odisha to Gopalpur Port. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 6,800 Crore.
Furthermore, there is a proposal for construction of a 404 Km 6-lane road from Sambalpur to Satabhaya. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 5,500 Crore.
