Big plan for Bhubaneswar decongestion: Massive investment for subway, flyovers, ring roads

The Odisha government plans an infrastructure upgrade in Bhubaneswar with massive investment, including an elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan, flyovers at Kalpana and Museum Squares, an AG Square subway, and inner and outer ring roads.

Odisha government has plans for major upgradation of the infrastructure to ease traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar, a Works Department source said on Wednesday.

According to the source, an elevated corridor will connect Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan, with flyovers at Kalpana Square and Museum Square. New road over-bridge (ROB) on Museum Road, underground roads (subway) at AG Square, and development of inner and outer ring roads are also parts of the proposed development works.

Decongestion plan for Bhubaneswar city includes construction of an elevated corridor from Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan; improvement of the Canal Road from Baranga to Jatni through Patia Station Chhak, NH-16 and Suang village (Daya West Canal Road); construction of flyover at Kalpana Square and Museum Square; construction of a ROB from Sishu Bhawan to Museum Square; construction of underpass at AG Square; construction of road from Kalarahang to Barimund and Guru Kelucharan Park to Phulanakhara with a new Railway Over Bridge; and construction of Inner and Outer Ring Road.

Besides, the Works Minister presented a budget of the Department for the financial year 2025-26 in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, today. Budget for the FY 2025-26, under Administrative Expenditure is Rs 2,996 Crore 68 Lakh 32 Thousand and Programme Expenditure is Rs 9,451 Crore 75 Lakh. Thus, the total Budget is Rs 12,448 Crore 43 Lakh 32 thousand.

The Minister outlined the various plans envisaged in the budget to implement the promises made in the election manifesto as well as various programmes of the Department for the FY 2025-26.

Notably, the Works Department has chalked out details to construct 15000 kilometres of World Class Road Network in five years.
