The Odisha government has unveiled a robust infrastructure plan valued at approximately Rs 7,000 Crore to address traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar. This was informed on Friday by Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan amid growing concerns over traffic management in the Capital City.

Key features of the plan involve the construction of an elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to the zoo and botanical gardens at Nandankanan. In addition, there are provisions to extend the Daya West Canal Road from Patia Station Square to Suanga Mouza, further improving connectivity.

An extensive road network improvement includes the widening of the road from Sundarpada to Jatni. Three new flyovers are set to be developed at Kalpana Square, Museum Square, and Sishu Bhawan Square, complemented by an underpass at AG Square.

The State is also eyeing progress on a left parallel road stretching from the Institute of Mathematics through Patharagadia-Utkal Hospital-Rail Vihar to Ekamra Kanan.

Plans for new access routes include three right access roads: one from Damana to Press Square, another from Kalarahang to Barimunda, and a third from Kelu Charan Park to Barimunda, besides constructing an inner ring road.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has called for the immediate commencement of these projects, ensuring their completion within the stipulated timeframes.

“An ideal road policy should include the provision of drains along with constructing new roads, which was not being done during the previous government. In some places, drains have been constructed at ‘dead ends’ of roads, thereby obstructing the flow of rainwater. A new road policy will consist of water drainage system,” the Works Minister stated.

“Wherever water logging is occurring in the City, be it on RD Department roads, or NHAI roads, or Works Department roads, plans are afoot to resolve the water drainage issues on a war footing. We have taken the matter seriously,” the Works Minister added.

Besides, a special allocation of Rs 214 Crore is dedicated to the improvement of Maa Tarini Temple in Keonjhar town and its vicinity.
