Two more foot-over-bridges are slated to come up in Bhubaneswar to boost infrastructure, ease traffic congestion, and enhance pedestrian safety, sources said on Tuesday.

An under-construction foot-over-bridge at Palasuni is expected to be inaugurated in March 2025, with plans afoot for another overbridge at Nakhara locality, Bhubaneswar Member of Parliament (MP) Aparajita Sarangi informed.

In addition to the foot-over-bridges, the ambitious Capital Region Ring Road (CRRR) project is expected to commence in April 2025. As per plans, this 111-kilometre thoroughfare will begin from Rameswar of Khurda district, promising to streamline traffic flow in the region and significantly reduce travel time, MP Sarangi stated.

“As you all know, a foot-over-bridge is to come up at Palasuni. The new overbridge is all set to be inaugurated in the first week of March (2025). A ring road (CRRR) will span over a large patch stretching from Rameswar in Khurda up to Tangi in Choudwar-Cuttack. The CRRR project is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 6,500 Crore,” the Bhubaneswar MP said.

A flyover on the national highway (NH-16) at Hanspal in Bhubaneswar was inaugurated today by the parliamentarian Sarangi.

Worth mentioning, that earlier on June 24 last year, the Ministry of Highways had directed the construction of at least four foot-over-bridges (FOBs) in Bhubaneswar and a flyover at Khurda Road to alleviate traffic congestion and improve vehicular movement.

The FOBs are to be built along national highways, including the one at Palasuni and another near Rajdhani College at Baramunda, with an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore. In addition, two FOBs are also to be constructed at Manguli, located on the Chandikhole-Jagatpur-Bhubaneswar section of NH-5 (presently NH-16).

These infra-development projects will be executed under the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.
