Putting Odisha’s growth on the fast track, the state government is promoting direct flight services to more cities across India. Recently, the Odisha government announced that direct flight services will be launched from BPIA to Indore, Dehradun, Kochi, Jaipur, and Lucknow. Similarly, direct flights will be launched from Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda to Hyderabad, Raipur, Lucknow, and Mumbai.

2. Air India Express – Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune
3. Akasa Air – Bangalore
4. Alliance Air – Jharsuguda, Kolkata, Rourkela
5. IndiaOne Air – Berhampur, Bhawanipatna, Jamshedpur, Jeypore
6. IndiGo – Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Durgapur, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Prayagraj, Raipur, Ranchi, Bagdogra, and Varanasi.
On the other hand, Odias are also flying to other countries for jobs and holidays. The introduction of direct international flights to and from Bhubaneswar has come as a major boost for Odisha tourism in the last few years.
Here’s a list of international flights that are operating from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Bhubaneswar:
1. Bhubaneswar to Dubai: Biju Patnaik International Airport began international flights to Dubai and it has been a major hit since Day 1. The airport marked its debut flight to Dubai on May 15, 2023 and all the flights are flying full since then.
2. Bhubaneswar to Singapore and Bangkok: Odisha on June 3 started direct flights from Bhubaneswar to Singapore and Bangkok, operated by IndiGo. In order to ensure that indiGo continues with its service uninterruptedly, the Odisha government even agreed to bear the costs of unsold tickets.
3. Bhubaneswar to Malaysia: Odisha is hopeful that international flights will promote trade and tourism. Travelers from Bhubaneswar are now able to fly directly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia visa-free without having to change flights. AirAsia, which had suspended the service due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resumed its direct flight service from Bhubaneswar to Malaysia on May 31, 2024. This has not only offered convenient travel options for tourists and fostered closer ties between the two nations.
