Bhadrak horror: Elderly woman hacked to death, two others critical in armed intruders' attack

A woman died on the spot while two others sustained grievous injuries after a violent break-in at a house in Deopada village of Rajendranagar panchayat under Bhandaripokhari block in Bhadrak district, on Tuesday evening. Four unidentified intruders allegedly entered the house in the absence of male members of the family and attacked the women.

Condition of the deceased’s younger sister-in-law and mother-in-law are critical now.

The deceased woman was identified as Jhunulata Sahu.

A reign of terror for the family in Bhadrak

According to sources, the miscreants entered the house and attacked the three women with sharp weapons leading to a death and leaving two others critically injured. The fatal attack occurred when the victims were watching TV. Reason behind the attack has not been ascertained yet. However, the brutal attack is said to be the fallout of past enmity.

The elder daughter-in-law of the family succumbed to her injuries. The mother-in-law and younger daughter-in-law have been transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack for urgent medical care.

What happened in the deadly evening?

“I was at my shop when the mishap occurred. I had got a phone call that someone was brandishing a sharp weapon to my family members. Immediately, I shut the retail shop and rushed to my house to find that all of them were lying injured on the floor. My children were also present at home but were not attacked,” Santosh Kumar Sahu said.

On being informed, local police reached the spot and initiated a probe.
