Double murder over car parking rocks Bhubaneswar

In a macabre act, two persons were allegedly murdered following an altercation over parking at Kalayani Plaza near Hitech Apartment under Airfield police limits in Bhubaneswar late last night.

The deceased have been identified as Rashmi Ranjan Sethi and his friend Julu Sethi.

According to sources, Rashmi Ranjan had several rounds of altercation with the maintenance in charge of Kalyani Plaza, identified as Bapi, and had a brawl on Tuesday night over car parking.

The fight took an ugly turn on Wednesday night when Bapi opposed Rashmi Ranjan from parking his car in front of the apartment. Irate over this, Rashmi Ranjan lost his cool and slapped Bapi.

Fumed over Rashmi Ranjan’s behaviour, Bapi and his associate allegedly chased the former and attacked him with sharp weapons causing his death on the spot, sources said, adding that the assailants also attacked Julu when he tried to resist them.

A profusely bleeding Julu was immediately rushed to Capital Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, sources informed.

On being informed about the incident, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh and Airfield police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the matter.

As palpable tension continues in the area, one platoon of police force has been deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward situation.
