Elderly woman dies while returning home from bank in Koraput
An 80-year-old woman, who had gone to the bank to withdraw her old age pension, allegedly died while she was returning home in Koraput district on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Kanta Meleka, a resident of Baunsaput village under Bandhugaon block in the district.
According to family members, Meleka had gone to Utkal Grameen Bank at Bandhugaon to collect her old age pension. However, she didn’t get the pension from the bank. Unfortunately, she died while returning home from the bank.
Expressing dissatisfaction over his sister’s death, Meleka’s brother said that the administration should make necessary arrangements so that elderly persons should get their old-age pensions at home.
However, no reactions could be obtained from the officials of the bank and the district administration in this regard.
“My sister had gone to the bank to withdraw her old age pension. However, she could not get the pension. We were shocked after she died while returning home,” said Meleka’s brother.
“The government should make necessary arrangements so that elderly persons get their pensions at home,” he added.
Local residents have expressed their resentment over the incident as there is a provision for providing pensions to elderly persons at their homes.
