‘Love Jihad’ case: Detained accused from Kashmir arrested in Bhubaneswar, mobile phone sent for forensic examination

Samir Mansoor, a Kashmiri youth, was arrested in a 'love jihad' case for allegedly forcing a woman from Jagatsinghpur to convert religions. He threatened her with intimate video exposure.

In a latest development in the alleged 'love jihad' case, the Kashmiri youth, who was detained by the police after a woman filed a complaint that he forced her to undergo religious conversion and marry him, was arrested on Saturday.

According to sources, the accused, identified as Samir Mansoor, was produced before the court after going through a medical examination. The mobile phone of the accused has been seized and sent to a forensic lab for examination. 

Earlier on Saturday, the police recorded the statement and performed the medical examination of the victim, who hails from Jagatsinghpur.

The action from the police came after the victim accused Mansoor of forcing her to convert her religion and marry him. She had lodged a complaint at Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar in this regard.

The man also allegedly threatened the victim to upload video clips of their intimate moments on the internet. 

Based on the complaint filed by the victim, the police registered a case and nabbed Mansoor while he was trying to leave from Odisha by train. Mansoon claimed that he hails from Bihar and was presently staying in Kashmir.

In the FIR, the woman claimed she came to know Mansoor through an online game in 2022 and was not aware of his religion initially.

“Mansoor forced me to convert my religion and marry him. When I refused to convert, he captured our intimate moments and blackmailed my father,” the woman alleged in her complaint.

The woman’s lawyer Sanghamitra Rajguru said that she was in love with Mansoor without knowing his real identity and religion.
