Exposing a shocking state of affairs, Odisha village Gapadara under Domuhani Panchayat in Ganjam district is still deprived of all basic amenities such as proper roads, electricity, mobile network, and water facilities even after 77 years of Indian independence. Sources reported a dire situation with education and healthcare facilities being virtually non-existent. The only way to reach the village is a steep, rocky hilly stretch of over six kilometres.

The unfortunate living situation was highlighted by Bhanjanagar MLA Pradyumna Kumar Nayak, who walked up to the village, accompanied by administrative officials. Reportedly, he was the sole government official or public representative to have set foot in the village.

During his visit, the MLA heard public grievances and took stock of the living conditions of the village. Additionally, many locals complained that previous administrations had all turned a blind eye towards them.

“No water or road is leading to and from the village, because of which our kids cannot go to school. We, too, have to descend and climb back up the hills to procure rations and it gets extremely difficult because of the rocky terrains,” said a woman from the village.
