The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Boudh district, Basanta Kumar Mohapatra was arrested by the Odisha Vigilance Department on Friday. He was arrested for amassing assets way over his known source of income.
"Based on searches conducted on properties of Basanta Kumar Mohapatra, he was found in possession of disproportionate assets including 2 high-value flats and two commercial shopping outlets in Bhubaneswar, payment of advance Rs 2.23 crore to Realtors for purchase of flats in upscale areas of Bhubaneswar and Bengaluru city, deposits over Rs 3.90 crore, Gold weighing 590 gm, cash Rs 1.16 lakh etc which he could not account for satisfactorily," the Vigilance said in a statement.
"Hence, Mohapatra has been placed under arrest and today he will be produced before Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar," the Vigilance added.
Earlier, simultaneous raids were carried out at 10 places linked to Mohapatra on Thursday. The vigilance sleuths have found property worth more than Rs 19 crore from the raids.
Out of the Rs 19 crore, Mohapatra has over Rs 3.75 crore as bank and insurance deposits.

Commercial shopping outlets No.4 & 5 at Utkal Kanika Galleria Mall, Gautam Nagar, Bhubaneswar with area approx 2500 Sqft. worth about Rs 2 crore.
3-BHK flat No.B/83, 8th floor, Utkal Royal Residency, Kalpana Square, Bhubaneswar worth approx. Rs 1 crore.
Advance Rs 1.35 crore paid to the Realtor by Mohapatra for the purchase of 5-BHK flat vide flat No.2504, Block-4, Iconic Tower, Z-1 Estate, Kalarahanga, Bhubaneswar with area 1776 Sqft.
Advance Rs 88 lakhs paid by Mohapatra to purchase a flat vide No.F-1002 in Ozone Elegant-WF-48 at Bengaluru city.
Apart from this, the vigilance sleuths have also recovered Rs 1,16,700 cash, 600 gm gold jewellery, 318 gm Silver and other furniture worth around Rs 9 lakh.
