The prevailing cold wave in Odisha is likely to subside along with a rise in temperatures by at least 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days, predicted the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Incidentally, cold winds blowing in from the north and north-western Odisha had caused the mercury to plummet several degrees since the start of the new year, and eight cities recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius.

The predicted respite will come at a time when the state is witnessing intense disparity in temperatures. Lately, temperatures in coastal Odisha have been 2 to 3 degrees higher than normal, while in certain locations in interior Odisha, they have been 1 to 2 degrees below normal.

However, the IMD predictions stated that both coastal and interior parts of Odisha will witness the incoming temperature rise in the next few days.

Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar centre of the MeT stated that dry weather will prevail over most parts of the state despite a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and adjoining states in lower tropospheric levels.
