‘Kanya Express’ launching in Cuttack
Bansidhar & Ila Panda Foundation (BIPF) introduced the 'Kanya Express' initiative in Odisha’s Cuttack on International Women's Day (March 8), to combat anaemia among adolescent girls in the district.
District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde flagged off the initiative on the Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys (IMFA) premises in Choudwar.
‘Kanya Express’ will operate in 25 panchayats of Cuttack district, particularly focusing on the areas under Tangi, Choudwar, and Athagarh blocks. The initiative seeks to raise awareness and improve the health conditions of young girls.
Vice President of IMFA Choudwar, Binoy Agrawalla and Vice President of Bansidhar & Ila Panda Foundation, Dharmesh Gohel were present at the event among others. They emphasised the importance of addressing vital health issues affecting young women in the region.
Launched in 2021, this ambitious mobile health program uses customised vehicles to carry out hemoglobin checks and BMI assessments for around 10,000 girls across 158 villages.
The programme addresses anemia through IFA supplements, deworming tablets, and nutri-gardens while educating about reproductive rights and hygiene.
Expanded in 2023, it aligns with the country’s Anaemia Mukta Bharat campaign.
