Inmates of Janani Ashram in Cuttack's Chaudwar were assaulted over a land dispute, with complaints filed by both parties. Police investigations are ongoing.

Serious allegations have emerged from the Janani Ashram located in Mahisalanda Panchayat under Chaudwar block in Cuttack district where some inmates have reportedly been assaulted by unidentified miscreants. 

A formal complaint has been lodged at the local police station regarding the incident.

According to the complaint, the ashram has been functioning for over 25 years, providing shelter and treatment for women suffering from mental health issues. Inmates residing at the ashram are also engaged in agricultural activities on nearby land.

Tensions reportedly escalated when the ashram residents opposed farming activities being carried out on the land within the ashram premises, which is legally owned by another party.

On the day of the incident, some individuals allegedly attempted to plough the disputed land using a tractor. When the ashram inmates tried to protest the action, they were allegedly attacked by the intruders.

Following the incident, both parties have filed complaints with the police. However, no official statement or detailed response has yet been released by the police regarding the matter. Investigations are reportedly underway.
