Tired of rushing to salon for a nail job, here’s how to do nail extensions at home

While some women are gifted with strong and attractive nails, others must devote significant time and money to achieving the perfect manicure. Acrylic nails have long been a favourite of women who want beautiful nail s that last at least a month. However, having your nails redone at the salon every month is not only time-consuming but also costly. As a result, you can perform a nail extension session at home whenever you want with these materials.

Prepare your nails

Before embarking on your new manicure journey, make certain that you have removed everything from your nails. Using a nail polish remover, remove your nail paint. If your nails are uneven, shape them first.

Put on the priming layer

Applying a priming coat to your natural nails helps protect them from damage and toxins

Apply for the extension

After thoroughly preparing and washing the nails, select the appropriate size of extension for each nail. Apply for the extension by putting it snugly against the cuticle of your nail.

Nail shaping and buffing

Clip and file the nails to the desired shape. Buff out the extensions once you've decided on the shape.

Paint your nails

Apply a thin coat of nail gel colour to each nail with a clean gel brush.

Instead of a UV lamp use a non-UV gel polish

This is the important part. You will need an alternative to a UV lamp to set the nails. You can do this by using a non-UV gel polish and then soaking your nails in ice water. This process works equally well. 

Apply the gel topcoat

Once the colour has set, apply a gel topcoat and lay your hand under ice water for another minute or so to properly set your extensions

Finishing touches

Finish your nails by painting a design on them, adding glitter, or even a little stone to fancy them up.

You're all set to show off your nails. The technique can be a little time-consuming, but the results are just as good as when your nail tech performs it. Best of all, you’ve done them yourself, so feel proud.
