Ever wondered why there is a lot of excitement and buzz about Cuttack’s historic Bali Yatra? One can easily attribute to lakhs of visitors and the business opportunity it offers to traders and artisans every year. For the unique platform, traders like Minati Bar from Balasore has set up a stall at Bali Yatra to try her luck at the largest open-air fair which began on November 8 this year.
Minati is now offering a wide range of decorative and homemade articles made of jute. It is for the first time that the woman entrepreneur has set up a stall at Bali Yatra.

“I have come to Bali Yatra for the first time as many traders do a good business during the week-long fair every year. All the products made of jute costs between Rs 80 to Rs 1600,” said Minati adding that the response for her products is quite satisfactory.
Like Minati, Kakuli Banerjee from West Bengal too has come to Bali Yatra with lot of expectations. She has set up a unique stall selling organic jewellery.
“I have brought a wide range of organic jewellery made of seeds, wood and other items which are usually thrown as waste. It is my first visit to Bali Yatra in Cuttack,” said Kakuli adding that the price ranges between Rs 30 to Rs 2,000 for her products.
Not only first timers, a lot of traders from different parts of Odisha as well as other parts of the country try to book a stall at Bali Yatra.
“It is for the past several years that we have been setting up a stall at Bali Yatra to sell a variety of organic food items like Kandhamal turmeric, ginger and other products. We had done business of around Rs 6 to 7 lakhs in the last edition of Bali Yatra,” said Joyjit Majumdar, an official of KASAM (Kandhamal Apex Spices Association For Marketing).
According to Majumdar, this time, they have brought scented rice and honey which can be bought by the visitors at Rs 70 and Rs 205 per half-kilograms, respectively.
